What is Omnilux™?

Omnilux™ was created as a result of over 12 years of extensive medical research at the UK Cancer Research Institute and Christie Hospital. Omnilux™ is a new technology based on narrowband Light emitting Diodes (LEDs).

Omnilux™ Technology Overview

Omnilux™ range of technology includes Omnilux Blue™, Omnilux Revive™ and Omnilux Plus™.

Omnilux™ Photorejuvenation

Aging is accompanied by a diminishing quantity of collagen in the dermis. The skin looses flexibility and ability to retain moisture - therefore becomes dryer and thinner as the body's natural regeneration processes slow.

Photoageing componds these effects, sinse harmful UVA and UVB rays in sunlight produce enzymes that brake down skin's supportive structure and so prevent formation of new collagen. Cell activation tests show that Omnilux Revive™ and Omnilux Plus™ have specific and unique cell stimulation patterns acting to photobiomodulate cell function and rejuvenate the skin.

Omnilux Revive™ 633 nm red light is absorbed in the cellular mitochondria and stimulates ATP production leading to increased cell vitality. The light is potently absorbed by fibroblasts, with a subsequent increase in the speed and efficiency of collagen synthesis.

Omnilux Plus™ 830 nm light acts synergistically with Revive™ light to achieve optimum efficacy in photorejuvenation. Omnilux Plus™ is strongly absorbed within fibro-myocytes promoting alignment and increased tone in the newly produced collagen bundles. The composit effect leaves the skin fuller and tighter in appearance. Light stimulated neovascularization in the treatment area means greater perfusion to the skin, increased oxygenation and removal of toxines and a more glowing appearance.

What to expect

Clinical trials using Omnilux Revive™ in combination with Omnilux Plus™ light therapy show a significatn reduction in skin roughness and density of skin furrows at 9 and 12 week follow-up.

In an independent study over 80% of subjects
reported a softening of fine lines after a treatment course
and 75% reported improvement in skin softness
and smoothness.

83.9% of patients reported sofnening of wrinkles after a course of 7 light treatments. Improvements continue to be seen when the light treatments have ended.

How many treatments are needed?

This depends upon your individual treatment
regime. During a consultation you will be advised on
how many treatments may be suitable for your
particular needs. In clinical studies the typical course recommended was 7 or 9 light treatments usually done twice per week.

How long will the treatment take?

Your first treatment will take 45 minutes, allowing
for your initial consultation. Ongoing treatments
will typically be 30 minute appointments, during
which the light is administered for 20 minutes.

How long does it take to recover?

There is no need for recovery time, and makeup
can be re-applied immediately after treatment.

Will the results be seen straight away?

This depends upon the treatment options used.The
initial effects are a clearer, brighter and
smoother complexion. After a course of treatments
have finished you will still see an improvement in
tone, clarity and skin smoothness as well as softening of fine lines and wrinkles. A follow-up appointment 12-weeks after the final light therapy session is recommended.

How long will the results last?

This will vary according to skin type and lifestyle and
whether you have combined Omnilux™ with other
treatments. However, unlike other treatments
where the effects are short lived, Omnilux™ Light Therapy stimulates natural cellular processes that
rejuvenate skin.This means the results you see
with Omnilux™ continue to improve for up to
4-6 months after the light treatment.

Who is Omnilux™ combination phototherapy
suitable for?

This is a very effective treatment for both men
and women of any age and any skin type. It is non-invasive and easy to perform.

Omnilux™ for Acne-prone skin

One of the key bacteria responsible for the inflammation is Propionibacterium acnes or P.acnes. These bacteria produce natural chemicals called poryphyrins. Omnilux Blue™ stimulates these chemicals into synthesizing intracellular singlet oxygen - inducing bacterial death and so eradicating the inflammatory effects of acne.

Omnilux Blue™ is combined with Omnilux Revive™ which has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to reduce the redness of acne lesions. It has also been clinically proven to stimulate fibroblasts, therefore enhancing collagen production and turnover in the skin and resulting in healthier, rejuvenated skin surrounding the acne affected area, minimizing the eventual possibility of scarring.

For severe acne, Omnilux Plus™ (830nm) near infra-red light is combined with Omnilux Blue™ treatment. Omnilux Plus™ light penetrates deeper into the skin and is a powerful stimulating force for mast cells, neutrophils, macrophages, fibro-myocytes and keratinocytes. It encourages calcium ion production and inter-cell signalling. Omnilux Plus™ is a potent immuno-modulating wavelength and, in addition, acts to rejuvenate the skin surrounding the acne affected area.

Omnilux™ combination light therapy works through the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of blue and red light. In a recent study, after just 8 treatments, subjects saw an 81% reduction in acne lesions.

What results can be expected from a series of treatments?

On average clients may see some improvement in inflammatory acne lesions as early as after the 4th treatment. Improvements continue to be seen when the light treatments have ended.

In clinical studies of Omnilux™ combination therapy (alternating sessions of Omnilux Blue™ and Omnilux Revive™) 45% of subjects reported optimum clearance 4 weeks after the final light treatment. 38% achieved best results 8 weeks after the final treatment. 17% reached their optimum result 12 weeks after the final light treatment.

Omnilux™ mechanism of action is not only through singlet oxygen mediated death of P.acnes (photodynamic therapy), but also through the stimulatory effect of narrowband light on immunoregulatory pathways. This is the reason for the beneficial effects of Omnilux™ light treatment continuing long after completion of the light therapy treatment course.

Are there any side effects from the treatments?

No. There have been no reported adverse side effects like redness or irritation from the treatment, and the light does not damage skin in any way.

Is it painful?

Not at all because there’s no heat involved, there’s no pain!

What actually happens during the treatment?

You will have to remove any makeup or sunblock before the treatment and you will also be asked to wear safety goggles. The light will then be positioned close to your face and you will be treated for 20 minutes. After that you’re free to go home.

The treatment course is usually 8 light treatments. Dependent upon your type of acne, you may be advised to use a face wash and/or other skin care products. A follow-up appointment 12-weeks after the final light therapy session is recommended.

Omnilux™ for Rosacea

Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory acneiform disorder of the facial pilosebaceous units. Capillaries have an increased reactivity leading to facial flushing and telangiectasia. The cosmetic effects of Rosacea are debilitating to patients. The course of the disorder is often prolonged and recurrences are common.

The use of Omnilux™ Light Therapy in rosacea offers excellent efficacy in erythema reduction and overall facial cosmetic enhancement. In addition, the anti-inflammatory effects of the Omnilux Revive™ treatments act to prolong time-to-recurrence of the condition.

The treatment course is typically 2 treatments weekly for 5 weeks, 10 light treatments in total. A follow-up appointment 12-weeks after the final light therapy session is recommended.
