Pigmentation at a glance
What is Pigmentation?
Pigmentation is a production of melanin pigment in the skin that creates a skin color varying from the palest beige to the darkest brown. In a healthy skin the distribution of the color throughout the body is usually even with some mild variations (for example on the elbows or in the skin folds). However some people experience a patchy or uneven color that affects their appearance and is aesthetically unpleasant. There can be an increase of pigmentation - called hyper-pigmentation and a decrease - called hypo-pigmentation. Apart from the medical reasons there are some cosmetic reasons as well. |
