Lightsheer™ Diode Laser - The Gold Standard and the Best Laser for Hair Removal
The LightSheer™ laser system was designed from the ground up for effective laser hair removal, providing unsurpassed safety and efficacy. Both in rigorous scientific trials as well as extensive clinical practice, LightSheer™ system has emerged as the world recognized "Gold Standard" in laser hair removal.
Backed by a long-term clinical data, the LightSheer™ laser has an ability to permanently reduce hair growth and treat the entire range of skin colours and hair types, satisfying hundreds of thousands of patients and their providers worldwide. The ChillTip hand piece provides the ultimate in epidermal contact cooling and compression, increasing penetration of laser energy to the base of the hair follicle to permanently destroy the hair at the root. The laser was developed in 1994 and the first hair removal study began in July 1996. The FDA cleared the device for treatments in December 1997. The FDA then granted it's claim for permanent hair reduction in April 1999 after it demonstrated in a 3000 person study a better than 50% permanent hair loss after only 3 treatments! As of today this machine still remains unsurpassed as the best laser for hair removal being the most effective and preferred device and a big favourite among both practitioners and clients who know the difference. About the Procedure
During our complimentary consultation, your laser technician will assess the area of concern, discuss all the details of your treatment and give pre- and post-treatment recommendations. At this time a patch test on the desired area can be performed at the appropriate laser parameters. The patch test is important in order to achieve the best laser hair removal results and at the same time ensure safety of the skin.
Prior to a treatment, all surface hair must be removed by shaving to prevent any damage to the skin. A clear ultrasound gel is applied onto the treatment are for additional cooling and lubrication. The LightSheer™ laser emits a near-infrared laser light that is absorbed by the melanin pigment of the hair inside the follicle. The laser light energy is then transferred into the heat in the hair shaft, which successfully destroys the hair root area thus eliminating the future growth of the hair. Most people describe the feeling similar to a pinch of a rubber band or a prickly sensation. Although pain is an individual feeling, most clients express the sensation as tolerable. After the treatment there may be swelling and/or reddening around the hair follicles similar to "goosebumps". This is expected in a successful treatment and absolutely normal, and usually goes away from within several hours to up to 3 days. A cooling compresses is applied after the treatment along with a soothing cream and a sunscreen. Lege Artis® Clinical Results in Laser Hair RemovalBefore and after the laser hair removal session:

Laser Hair Removal Demo Video - performed at Lege Artis® ClinicIs there a difference between IPL hair removal and Laser hair removal?
At Lege Artis we are happy to have both technologies. However since we have the LightSheer™ - the best "Gold Standard" laser for hair removal - we would not use an IPL and only limit its use for skin treatments.
Some technical details: The major difference between a laser light and an IPL light is in the light itself and also in its delivery to the hair root. True laser light is coherent (straight as a pointer) so the entire laser energy is delivered directly to the hair, while the IPL light is diffuse and a portion of it can be lost (diffused) on its way to the hair causing uneven or "missed" spots and patches. Laser light is also of a single and very specific waive length proven to be the most absorbed by the human hair and the most effective for hair destruction. IPL has a multi spectrum light bulb that delivers a very broad range of light energy with each pulse therefore being not very specific for hair removal and not allowing a technician to apply higher energy (that may be needed) without risking burning their client's skin. Since the energy is lower - the result is poorer and significantly more treatments are required than with a true Laser hair removal. Unique cooling system of Light Sheer™ laser - the ChillTip - makes it also superior in terms of skin safety and client's comfort during the laser hair removal treatment (most IPL machines do not have epidermal cooling which makes hair removal more painful and less safe for the skin). Laser Hair Removal FAQ
How many treatments will I need?
Hair growth cycle has several phases. The anagen phase is the active growth phase when hair contains the largest amounts of melanin (dark pigment) and this phase is the laser's target. From scientific studies we learned that human skin contains approximately 20-30% of anagen hairs at a time, and these anagen hairs are affected during each treatment. Most clients will require a minimum of 4-6 treatments. Clients with finer hair and dark skin clients may require 6-8 treatments. For darker skin types appropriate fluences are generally lower and appropriate pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the epidermis therefore some extra sessions may be required to complete the treatment. If you suffer from a hormone imbalance your treatments may be ongoing since the hormones are known to stimulate the development of coarser darker hair in the areas where tiny baby hair is typical. How long should I wait between treatments? Waiting time may be different for different people. In general the hair growth cycle for the face and neck areas is shorter than that for the body areas so it is recommended to repeat treatments after 4-6 weeks for neck and face areas and 8-10 weeks for body areas. How do I manage the hair between laser treatments? Once you start laser hair removal treatments with LightSheer™ you should not have much hair to manage since it sheds gradually during the weeks following each session. However if you need to, shaving or trimming is fine. Do not wax, tweese or thread hair between your treatments. These methods remove hair from the follicle so it will not yet grow back and be present at the time of your next laser hair removal appointment therefore those hair follicles will not be treated. We do not recommend to use depilatory creams since they can irritate the skin. Are the Results Permanent? Despite the abundance of various devices on the market the LightSheer™ laser still remains the most effective and favourite technology for laser hair removal. The results however are directly proportionate to the colour of the hair and the skin when the best candidates are persons with darkest hair and lightest skin. Coarse thick dark hair is ideal while light, blond or hardly visible "peach fuzz" hair is the poorest candidate since it does not have sufficient amount of the melanin pigment to absorb enough laser light to be effectively coagulated. The LightSheer™ laser has been cleared by the FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types and tanned skin. To achieve a satisfactory level of clearance 4-6 treatments are typically required. What if I have a tan? A tan is produced by melanin pigment developing in the skin stimulated by UV radiation coming from the sun. The laser light is absorbed by melanin. The technology in the Lightsheer™ allows the skin to be cooled effectively to not traumatize the tan, but the energy of the laser must be reduced to accommodate a tan. Therefore a client with a tan may need more treatments than a client without a tan. To have a more effective and aggressive treatment it is ideal that you do not have a tan prior to treatment. Wear a reputable sunblock with SPF30 or higher and if possible cover the treatment area with the clothes. For clients who like swimming and outdoor activities the sunblock has to be water resistant (look for sunblocks marked "for sports" or for "watersports"). |
